Have you tried the WD My Cloud? Also there have been a few firmware updates that you might need to do. After resetting it I would try connecting to it directly and accessing the dashboard and then update the firmware. WD has a setup website you could try: or try the setup software: I have one of these and I know they can be a pain to get setup but once they are then they seem to work well. I have a WD drive connected to the MyCloud to use as a safe point. I have lost count over about a year where it doesn't recognise the safe point drive. It also seems to be continually indexing.

I don't think it has stopped indexing from the day I installed it. Fortunately, I am not reliant on this unit. If I were buying again, I would steer well clear of WD, and have a look at Synology. It's a lot more expensive, but as Apple users know, you sometimes get what you pay for. I'll back up Lisa on this one. I have a WD MyCloud for network use on my internal network and it works fine. It was a bit fiddly getting it all set up, but it's been the target of Time Machine now for months with no fuss, no trouble.

But it would be good to make sure you have the latest firmware updates on that drive, as Lisa suggested. Admittedly, I don't have another drive daisy-chained off the MyCloud, like neilf said he has, but as a network drive, MyCloud works well. I have accessed it from outside the network, too, which is a nice feature.

Just another opinion. Sorry you have had problems with yours - I get it. When I first added it to our network, I wanted an easy way to access files on everyones computers fast to help with various projects, lost files and other issues.

I had trouble accessing it and getting it to back up files went through multiple resets - you name it. Now with software updates and firmware updates it is very stable and reliable. I do not use it for time machine backups. I did at first and it worked but I added two time capsules to my network and I use them now.
